About You Know Her

The basics

What is You Know Her?

A free platform for women returning to paid work after time away. Anyone can browse and search the jobs board without an account, and joining is free: make your account with your email, Google or Apple, no invite needed. People who know her work, her champions, write short notes about her in their own words; once she has approved notes from three, approved employers can find her and she can apply to partner jobs with her profile.

Does it cost anything?

It’s always free for members and for champions: there’s no premium or paid membership, and nobody can pay to be seen first. Joining is always free for employers too.

Who is it for?

It was built for women returning to paid work after a career break, for any reason, including women already back in a job that doesn’t fit, because career breaks fall hardest on women. Anyone who shares that mission is welcome to make a free account: no invite or approval needed.

Do I have to be a woman to join?

No. Anyone who shares the mission, men included, is welcome to make a free account. You Know Her was built for women returning to work, because career breaks fall hardest on women.

Who runs You Know Her, and where are you based?

You Know Her LLC, based in Portland, Oregon. Reach us on the Contact page, or tap “Email us” below.

Are you a recruiting agency? Will you find me a job?

No. You Know Her isn’t an employer, recruiter or employment agency: it connects women returning to work with approved employers, and employers decide whom to interview and hire. We can’t promise interviews or a job. See our Terms.

I already have a job. Is You Know Her for me?

Yes. Many women take the first job they can after a break, because the paycheck can’t wait. If you’re working now and want a job that fits what you can really do, you belong here. Choose “Only employers I apply to” on your profile and no employer can find you unless you apply.

Is it invite-only? Do I need an invite?

No. Joining is free and open: go to Sign in, enter your email and type the code we send, or continue with Google or Apple, and your account is made. No invite or approval needed. What keeps the site trusted is champions: employers can find you only once you’ve approved notes from three people who know your work.

Will my career gap count against me?

No. Employers here can’t search, filter or rank anyone by the length of a career break. Dates on jobs are optional, and for each job you choose what employers see: how long you were there, the dates, or neither. Graduation and certification years stay hidden unless you turn them on. Employers come to You Know Her to hire women returning from time away.

How do I report a bug or something that isn't working?

Tap “Report a problem” at the bottom of this help panel (or choose “Something isn’t working” on the Contact page). Say what happened and what you expected. We see the page you were on and your browser, so you don’t need to describe those. A person reads every report and writes back by email.

Can I ask for a feature, or tell you something's missing?

Yes, please. Tap the ? button, then “Suggest an idea” at the bottom of the help panel (or choose “An idea or feedback” on the Contact page). Tell us what's missing or what would make the site work better for you. A person reads every idea, and we write back by email.

How do I reach a person?

Use the Contact page (“Contact” in the footer), or tap “Email us” at the bottom of this help panel. A person reads every message and usually writes back by email within a day or two. To continue, just reply to that email.

How does this help panel work?

As you type, matching questions appear, and tapping one shows our written answer. If you send your own question, an AI assistant answers it using only these written answers, and says so when it doesn’t know. For anything else, tap “Email us” and a person writes back.

Is there a mobile app?

Not yet. You Know Her works in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer.

Signing in

How do I sign in?

Go to Sign in and enter your email. We’ll email you a 6-digit code; type it on the screen and you’re in. It works on any device, and there’s no password. If you’ve connected Google or Apple, you can use those instead.

It says too many codes were sent.

For security we send at most 5 codes to one email an hour (and 10 an hour from one connection), and after asking for a new code you wait a minute before the next. Each code also stops working after 5 wrong tries (“Too many tries.”): tap “Email me a new code”. Typing codes for one address more than 10 times in 15 minutes shows “Too many tries for this address”: wait a few minutes. Then use the newest code in your inbox, or email hello@youknowher.com.

A form says it couldn’t confirm I’m a person.

Making a new account, the employer access form and the contact form have a quick check from Cloudflare that stops automated spam. Usually you never see it; sometimes a small “Verify you are human” box appears above the button, and it goes through once you tick it. If you see “We couldn’t confirm this came from a person”, reload the page and try again (what you typed stays). Turning off a browser extension that blocks scripts can help. Still stuck? Email hello@youknowher.com and we’ll take it from there.

I tried to sign in and the email says there’s no account.

That email doesn’t have a You Know Her account yet. Joining is free: go to Sign in, enter that email and type the code we send, or continue with Google or Apple, and your account is made. Already have an account under a different address? Sign in with that one.

I got an email saying someone tried to sign in with my address.

If it wasn’t you, you can ignore it: nobody can sign in without the code we email to that address.

I’m signed in but it says there’s nothing here yet.

That email has no member profile or company account yet. Looking for work? Tap “Make my free account”, then sign in again with that email and type the code. Already have an account under another address? Tap “Sign in with a different email”. Hiring? Tap “Request employer access”.

Can I sign in with Google or Apple?

Yes: both Google and Apple sign-in are available. If your Google or Apple account uses the same email as your You Know Her account, it opens your account straight away. New here? Continuing with Google or Apple on Sign in makes your free account. To use a Google or Apple account with a different email from your account, sign in with the emailed code first, then tap Connect next to Google or Apple on Ways to sign in. The emailed code always keeps working.

How do I remove Google or Apple?

Go to Ways to sign in and tap “Remove” next to it. The emailed code is always on, so you can’t lock yourself out.

Can I sign in with LinkedIn?

Not right now. Sign in with an emailed code, or with Google or Apple once they’re connected. Members can still add their LinkedIn profile link in the last step of setup, and it shows as a link on their profile.

Why does it ask “Where to?” after I sign in?

Your email has more than one place on You Know Her, for example your member profile and your company’s employer account, so after each sign-in you pick one. The one you used last is marked “Last used”. You can switch any time from the menu.

Can I change the email I sign in with?

Email hello@youknowher.com from your current address and tell us the new one. We’ll move it for you.

Privacy

What do employers see about me?

Your profile: your name, headline, short bio and city, how you want to work (including availability and whether you’d relocate), your letter and career break story if you add them, projects, experience, education, skills, tools, languages, interests, links, work samples and the notes you’ve approved. For each job, only what you chose under “Show employers” (how long, the dates, or neither). Never your email (unless you share it), the pay you’re looking for, or photos. Graduation and certification years show only if you turn them on, and your resume goes only to employers you apply to.

Who can see my email address?

Employers can’t, unless you choose to share it. You talk with them here first, and you can share your email in one tap when you’re ready. When you ask a champion by email, their reply comes straight to you, so they’ll see your address.

Can Help tell me about a specific member or company?

No. Help answers questions about how You Know Her works. It can’t look up, confirm or share anything about a particular member, champion, employer or company, including whether someone is a member, their contact details, notes, applications or activity.

Can I add a photo?

No. There are no photos of people on You Know Her, so no one is judged on how they look. Images are for work samples and company logos.

Do you use AI?

In a few places, each named in our privacy policy. If you upload a resume at the start of setup, Anthropic’s Claude reads it to fill in your profile, and you check everything first. When you send a question in this help panel, Claude answers it from our written answers only. “Help me say it” for your career break sends Claude only what you typed, if anything, for a draft you edit. When you open a public listing, Claude reads the company’s posting (nothing about you) to list what the job asks for; the comparison with your profile isn’t AI. If you import a spreadsheet of jobs and its headers aren’t clear, Claude sees only the headers and three sample rows. If you save an employer’s email to My search, Claude reads that email to suggest an update you save or turn down. Claude also sorts public listings into fields and levels from the job’s title and department. No AI screens or ranks members, and “For you” on Jobs is matched by simple rules from your profile, not AI.

Do you use cookies?

Only ones the site needs: to keep you signed in, to remember how you last signed in on that device, to remember the last place you opened (member or employer), and briefly while you connect Google or Apple. One more remembers where your visits came from (a member’s link, a post or an ad), so we know how people find us. Google Analytics also sets cookies so we can see how people find and use the site; it never receives the code in a private invite or champion link, your email or your name, and it doesn’t run at all on private pages (invite, champion and check-in links, signing in, account settings, members’ profiles). In the EU, UK, Switzerland and Quebec we ask before setting those two, and anyone can change their choice under “Cookie choices” at the bottom of the page. No advertising cookies. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

How do I see, correct or delete my information?

To delete your account, go to Ways to sign in and tap “Delete my account…” at the bottom. Type your account email to confirm; it’s deleted right away and can’t be undone. To see or correct your information, or if you’d rather we delete it, email privacy@youknowher.com. You can edit most of your profile on Your profile.

Do you sell my information?

No. We never sell or rent anyone’s information, and we don’t use it for advertising. See our privacy policy.

Can I see which employers looked at my profile? Do you record it?

There’s no “who viewed my profile” list. For us only, we record when an approved employer views, saves or contacts you, with a counts-only snapshot of how your profile looked at the time (like how many notes or projects, never your words), to learn what helps women get interviews. Only the You Know Her team sees these records; employers and members don’t. See our privacy policy.

Where is my data stored?

Supabase stores our data and files in the United States, with access rules on every table and private file storage. Vercel hosts the site and Resend sends our emails. See our privacy policy.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. You need to be 18 or older to join.

Are my help questions saved?

Yes. Questions asked here, and the AI’s answers, are saved so the team can improve our answers, and only the You Know Her team sees them. Anthropic, which provides the AI, doesn’t train on them.

Can I stop your emails?

Emails about your own account (sign-in codes, champions' notes, intros, messages and job updates) can’t be turned off, since they’re how the site works. Occasional emails from us (group updates, and a few tips while you’re getting started) and company invitation emails have an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom (“Don’t want emails like this?”), and most mail apps show an unsubscribe button too. Unsubscribing stops all of those at once. Job alerts stop one at a time: “Turn off this alert” in the email, or Manage alerts. “Heard back?” check-ins stop with “Stop these check-ins” in the email. If another email shouldn’t come to you, tap “Email us” below.

Why did I get an email with tips from you?

Now and then we send a few short tips at a useful moment, for example while you’re gathering your first three champions. They stop on their own when that step is done, and there’s an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each one. You can reply to any of them; your reply comes to us.

For members

Joining

How do I join?

Go to Sign in and enter your email; we’ll email you a 6-digit code, and typing it makes your free account. Or tap “Continue with Google” or “Continue with Apple”. No invite, approval or resume needed. You can browse and search Jobs without an account; saving jobs, job alerts, tracking what you applied to and applying to partner jobs need one.

My invite link says it expired.

A link from a friend lasts 14 days; invites from our team or a company last 30. On the expired page, tap “Ask … for a new invite” and we’ll let the person who invited you know, or just make your free account yourself: no invite needed. If it says “This invite has already been used”, sign in with the email it was sent to. If you never used it, tap “Let us know” on that page and we’ll look into it.

Your profile

What do I fill in when I set up my profile?

Six short steps: about you, the fields you want to work in, skills and tools, projects from your break, how you want to work, and links to your work and your resume. Only your first name is required, and you can skip any step. Each step is saved when you tap Continue, and your home shows where to pick up.

What does “How you want to work” ask?

Where you’d like to work (remote, hybrid or on-site, any of them), the type of work, whether you need a flexible schedule, whether you’d relocate and when you’re available. Optional: up to 3 roles you want next, the pay you’re looking for (only you see it) and languages. Add interests later on Your profile.

Are there limits on what I can add?

A few: up to 3 fields, 25 skills, 40 tools, 3 projects from your break and 3 roles you want next, plus up to 15 skills and 15 tools in your own words. A resume can be up to 5 MB and a work sample up to 10 MB.

Can it fill in my profile from my resume?

Yes, if you’d like. At the start of setup you can upload a PDF or Word (.docx) resume, up to 5 MB, and we’ll fill in your name, city, jobs, volunteer roles, education, certifications, skills and tools; an older .doc file needs to be saved as PDF or .docx first. You check everything before it’s saved. Job dates on your resume come in set to show only how long you were there; on “Here’s what we found.” tap Edit to show the dates, hide them or change them. Graduation years are never brought in. It’s optional: “I’ll fill it in myself” skips it.

It says “We couldn’t read that one” when I upload my resume.

Your resume file is still saved; we just couldn’t pull your details from it. Try another file (PDF or Word .docx, up to 5 MB), or tap “I’ll fill it in myself” and fill in the steps yourself.

The resume import got something wrong.

On the “Here’s what we found.” screen, tap Edit next to it to fix it, or Remove to take it out, before you tap “Looks right, continue”. After that, you can change it any time on Your profile under Experience and volunteer roles.

Who sees my resume?

Only employers you apply to, and only if you attach it when you apply. It’s never shown on your profile. To add or swap it, go to Your profile, Resume, and tap “Upload” or “Replace” (PDF or Word, up to 5 MB). The newest one is marked “the one employers get” and is picked for you when you apply.

How do I edit my profile?

Go to Your profile and tap Edit on a section; changes show as soon as you save, and editing a setup step brings you back to your profile. Education and certifications have no Edit: remove the item (“Remove”, then “Tap again to remove”) and add it again.

How do I see my profile the way employers see it?

On Your profile, tap “View as employers see it” under your name. You’ll see what they see, without your resume or email.

Who can see my profile?

Only you, until you’ve approved notes from three champions. On Your profile, tap “Visible to” under your name: there are two choices: “Employers can find me” or “Only employers I apply to”. There’s no public setting: your profile is never open to anyone on the internet or to other members. A partner company you apply to sees your profile unless you withdraw. To see how it looks to them, tap “View as employers see it”.

Can other members see my profile or my notes?

No. Other members never see your profile, your notes or your applications. Your approved notes are seen only by approved employers who can find you, and by companies you apply to or say yes to. You see your own on Your profile.

Can my current boss or employer see my profile?

Only companies we’ve approved can find members, and only if you choose “Employers can find me”. If you don’t want a company to see you, choose “Only employers I apply to” on your profile: then only companies you apply to see your profile. No one is ever told that you joined.

Can I hide my profile from employers?

Yes, any time, even before your champions are in. On your profile, tap “Visible to” under your name and choose “Only employers I apply to” (or tap “Change” next to the line about employers on your home). Employers can’t search for you or ask to meet you; a company you apply to still sees your profile unless you withdraw. Choose “Employers can find me” to turn it back on.

What counts as a project from my break?

Anything real you did while away from paid work: running a fundraiser or school auction, keeping the books for a family business, volunteering, managing a parent’s care, leading a board. Say what you did and what came of it; numbers help. Add up to 3. Nothing to add yet? Tap “Skip for now” on that step and add them later on Your profile.

Where do I add past jobs, education and certifications?

On Your profile, under Experience and volunteer roles, Education and Certifications. One line about what you did is enough. Dates are optional: add a start and end (month and year, or just the year) or check “I work here now”, then for each job choose under “Show employers” what they see: How long (the default), The dates, or Neither. Use the ↑ and ↓ arrows on each role to set the order employers see; a new role goes to the top.

Can I add dates to my jobs, and who sees them?

Yes, if you want to. On Your profile, “Add a role” and each role’s Edit have an optional Start and End (month and year; the month is optional) or “I work here now”. Once there’s a start year, “Show employers” lets you choose How long (the default), The dates, or Neither, and a line shows “Employers see: …”. With How long or Neither, employers never receive your dates at all. Your profile shows under each job what employers see, or “Dates hidden from employers”. Dates can’t be in the future (“Start can’t be in the future.” / “End can’t be in the future.”): add a job you haven’t started yet once you start, or leave its dates empty for now.

What does “How long” show employers?

Just the length of the job, the way LinkedIn shows it: exact years and months, counting the first and last month, like “8 years, 4 months”, “1 year” or “5 months”. If you gave years only, it’s whole years (“8 years”), and the same year shows “Less than a year”. It never shows which years. “The dates” shows the range and how long together, like “Mar 2009 – Jun 2017 · 8 years, 4 months”, “2009–2017 · 8 years” or “Mar 2009 – now · 17 years”; “Neither” shows nothing.

Will employers see when I got a certification?

Only if you choose. Each certification has an optional “Year”, hidden until you turn on its “Show year” switch; then it shows after the issuer. Graduation years work the same way with “Show graduation year”.

How do I remove a job, school or certification?

On Your profile, tap “Remove” next to it, then “Tap again to remove”. It takes two taps so nothing goes by accident. Work samples and your resume have a one-tap “Remove”.

How do I add a work sample?

On Your profile, under Work samples, add a PDF or an image (JPG, PNG or WebP) up to 10 MB with a short title. You can tie it to one of your projects. Employers can open it from your profile.

My skill or tool isn’t in the list.

Add it in your own words. In skills, tap “+ Add your own”. In tools, search for it and tap “+ Add … as your own”. It shows on your profile the same way.

What is the letter to future employers?

An optional note in your own words: what you’re looking for, what you bring and why now. On Your profile, open “Letter to future employers”, write it and tap “Save”; the same box has an optional space for your career break. It appears near the top of your profile.

What is “Your career break”?

An optional box under your letter on Your profile where you can say as much or as little about your time away as you like. Employers see it as “Her career break” on your profile.

Can you help me explain my career break?

Yes. Under “Your career break” on Your profile, tap “Help me say it”, add a few words if you like (you never need to say why you took a break), and tap “Write a draft”. You get one or two plain, confident sentences written by Claude from only what you typed: no invented details and no apologizing. Tap “Use this” to put it in the box, change anything you like, then “Save”. “Try another” gets a fresh draft, up to 10 a day; when the AI is off you pick from three written templates instead. The same button sits under the note when you apply to a partner job.

Do I need a cover letter?

No. Your letter to future employers and your champions' notes do that job. When you apply, you can add a short note if you want to.

Who sees the pay I’m looking for?

No one but you. Employers never see it, and it’s never shown on your profile.

Will employers see my graduation year?

Not unless you turn it on. On Your profile, each school has a “Show graduation year” switch, and it’s off by default.

Do I have to fill out my profile before I can look at jobs?

No. Every setup step has “Skip for now, browse jobs”, which takes you straight to Jobs. Nothing in setup is required: no resume, headline or bio. You can finish your profile later from your home whenever you like, and what you’ve already filled in is kept.

Champions

I lost my champion’s email address. Can you give it to me?

We can’t. The site doesn’t show you your champions’ email addresses: on References you see only “Email only” or “Phone and email” next to anyone who offered to be a reference. Help can’t look up or share anything about a particular member, champion or company. If you asked her by email, it went to the address you typed; reach her another way, or send a new ask with “I’ll share it myself” and “Get my link”.

What is a champion?

Someone who knows your work and vouches for you: a former boss, a colleague, a client, a classmate, someone you volunteered with or a friend. They write a short note in their own words. With three approved notes, approved employers can find you and you can apply to partner jobs with your profile; you don’t need any to browse jobs or apply to public job listings. To ask one, tap “Ask your first champion” (or “Ask someone else”) on your home.

Can a friend or family member be my champion?

Yes. Champions are people who know your work: a boss, colleague, client, classmate, someone you volunteered with, or a friend or family member. When you ask, pick “Friend or family” as how you know them; on their side the option reads “I know [first name] personally”. Their note counts toward your three like any other.

How many champions do I need?

Three approved notes and approved employers can find you, and you can apply to partner jobs with your profile. You need none to browse every job, any time, or to apply to public job listings on companies’ own sites, so you can start applying today. There’s no limit after three. Asking four or five is smart, since not everyone replies.

How do I ask someone to be a champion?

On your home, tap “Ask your first champion” (later, “Ask someone else”). Add their name, pick how you know them and edit the message we suggest. Then choose “We email it” and tap “Send to …”, or “I’ll share it myself” and tap “Get my link” to copy the message and link into a text or any app. Only emailed asks can get a reminder from us.

Does my champion need an account?

No. They open the link, write a few lines and confirm with a 6-digit code sent to their email. It takes about a minute.

What does my champion see?

Your name, your first field and city, and the message you wrote them. Not your profile. Then a few short steps: how they know you, up to three strengths, a few sentences about your work, and their name and email. To try it yourself, tap “See what they’ll see →” on your home: every step works and nothing is sent.

My champion hasn’t replied. Can I remind them?

Yes, once. Two days after you ask someone by email, a Remind button appears next to their name on your home; if you don’t use it, we send one reminder ourselves after 4 days. Both the first link and the reminder’s link work, and the reminder gives them at least 14 more days. If you shared the link yourself, just send it to them again.

How do I know if my champion opened my link?

Your home lists everyone you asked, whether you emailed them or shared the link yourself. Under each name it shows the status: “Asked 3 days ago · not opened”, “· opened, no note yet”, “· reminded”, “Wrote you a note · waiting for you”, “Approved · on your profile”, “Kept private” or “Link expired”. When they write, we also email you.

How do I approve a note?

When a champion writes, we email you and the note shows on your home. “Approve” shows it on your profile and counts toward your three. “Keep private” hides it so only you see it; you can show it later on Your profile with “Show it”. Nothing a champion writes shows until you approve it.

Can I edit a champion’s note?

No one can, including us, so every note stays in the champion’s own words. You can hide it, or send it back: on your home tap “Ask … to change something”, or on Your profile tap “Ask to change”. It’s hidden while they rewrite it, and you approve the new version.

Can I hide a note later?

Yes. On Your profile, under Champions' notes, tap Hide, and “Show it” to bring it back. Hidden notes don’t count toward your three.

What happens if I hide a note and go below three?

Employers stop finding you, and you can’t apply to new partner jobs, until you’re back to three approved notes; public job listings stay open to you. If you’re at exactly three, we warn you first (“You’ll have 2 of 3 approved”) and you confirm with “Hide it”. The same goes for sending a note back to rewrite.

Do I have to get champions before I can use the site?

No. Champions are optional. You can look at jobs, apply on companies’ own sites, set up as much of your profile as you like, and save jobs and alerts right away. Champions add one thing: once you’ve approved notes from 3 people who know your work, approved employers can find you and you can apply to partner jobs in one tap. Ask whenever you’re ready, from your home page.

Jobs and applications

Can I look at and apply to jobs before I have three champions?

Yes. Anyone can browse and search every job on Jobs, even without an account, and apply to any public job listing (about 225,000 in the US and Canada, from companies’ own sites) on the company’s site. Saving jobs, job alerts and “Did you apply?” tracking need a free account. Only partner jobs, where you apply here with your profile and notes, wait until you have three approved notes.

What’s the difference between partner jobs and public job listings?

Partner jobs come from companies that hire through You Know Her: they carry a “Partner” badge, always show pay, sit at the top of every page, and you apply here with “Apply with your profile” (it sends your profile and champion notes; you need three approved notes). Every partner replies within 7 days. Public job listings come from companies’ own career sites: you read about the role here, then tap “Apply on [company]’s site”, and they reply in their own time. Anyone can apply to those, with or without champions.

Why are technician, driver and kitchen jobs in their own field?

They're under **Frontline & trades**: hands-on and shift work like technicians, drivers, the trades, crew, cashiers, cleaning, security and kitchen jobs. They used to be filed under Operations, which filled “My fields” with line work for anyone after an operations role. Jobs that run or plan the work (a store, plant, maintenance or restaurant manager, a shift supervisor) stay in Operations. To see frontline jobs, add Frontline & trades to your fields, or pick it under More filters → Field on Jobs.

How do I filter jobs?

On Jobs, tap “All filters” (“Filters” on a phone): Work setting (Remote, Hybrid, On-site), Distance (5, 10, 25 or 50 miles from the city in Where), Job type (Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Temporary), Minimum pay (any amount, per year or per hour, and whether to include jobs that don’t list pay), Experience level, Date posted (Any time, Past 24 hours, Past week, Past month) and Returner programs only. “More filters” has Field, Partner or public, Flexible schedule, Country and Hide titles. “Show {n} jobs” counts as you go. Each filter that’s on shows as a chip at the top; tap it to turn it off.

How do I sort jobs, and why do more load as I scroll?

Tap the sort (next to the number of jobs) for “For you”, “Newest first” (the usual order), “Most relevant” (when you search) or “Highest pay” (jobs with no pay go last). Partner jobs stay at the top whatever the sort. Jobs come 20 at a time; “Show 20 more” at the end of the list adds the next 20. On a computer, clicking a job opens it beside the list, and × closes it.

What is “For you” on Jobs?

A sort that matches public listings to your profile: the roles you want next, jobs you’ve held, and your fields, never your dates or a career break. Each job says why, like “Like the role you want: Operations manager · Remote, as you prefer”. No matches yet? Add those to Your profile. Tap “Email me new matches” to get them by email.

What is “How this fits you” on a listing?

A short box on each public listing that only you see. It compares the job with your profile: whether the title is close to a role you want or have held (“Close to a role you want: Operations Manager”), and whether its field, where you work and hours match your preferences (“Matches 2 of your 3 preferences: remote and full-time. Not field.”). A moment later, when we can read the company’s posting, it adds “About 4 of 7 things this job asks for” (or “What this job asks for” when none of them are on your profile yet), with “You have: …” (what’s on your profile: skills, tools, certifications, degrees, job titles and your job descriptions) and “Not on your profile yet: …” (up to 5 each, must-haves first). The requirements are read from the posting by AI, once per listing, and it can miss things; the comparison with your profile is a plain word match, not AI, and nothing about you goes to the AI. Requirements that are only years (“5+ years of experience”) aren’t counted. If the posting can’t be read, that part doesn’t appear. Adding your skills, tools and certifications on Your profile makes it more accurate. If your profile has nothing to compare yet, the box asks you to add the roles you want and how you want to work. Employers never see it.

Can I hide a job I’m not interested in?

Yes. Tap the thumbs-down on a public listing (or “Not interested” on its page): “You won’t see this job again.” Tap “Undo” right there to bring it back, or “Hide all from [company]” to hide that company’s listings too. Hidden jobs stay out of the board, For you and your job alerts. Undo is only offered right there.

What if a job is closed when I get to the company’s site?

Tell us: tap “Job closed?” on the job’s page, or “The job was closed” when we ask whether you applied. It comes off your board right away, and we check the company’s site again within minutes. When two members say the same job is closed, it comes off the board for everyone unless the company still lists it. A link to a job that’s already been taken down opens a page that says “This job has closed,” with a way back to your jobs.

Can I get emails about new jobs?

Yes. Search or set filters on Jobs, then tap “Alert me” (under the public listings, or at the top on Partner jobs); on For you it says “Email me new matches”. We email at 8am Pacific, daily unless you choose weekly, with up to 10 jobs at a time, partner jobs first. “New” means new to you and posted in the last 14 days: never the same job twice, and no email on days with nothing new. You can have up to 10 alerts.

How do I change, pause or stop a job alert?

Tap “Manage alerts” on Jobs (or go to Job alerts): each alert has Daily or Weekly, “Pause” / “Resume” and “Delete”. Every alert email also has “Turn off this alert”, which works without signing in and pauses just that one. If you haven’t opened a job or “See all matches” from an alert’s emails in 3 months, it pauses itself; tap “Resume” to restart it.

What happens when I apply on a company’s own site?

On a public listing, “Apply on [company]’s site” opens their posting in a new tab. When you come back, we ask “Did you apply to [company]?”: “Yes, I applied”, “Not yet” or “Remind me tomorrow” (one “Did you apply to [company]?” email the next morning). Missed the question? The listing shows “Did you apply to [company]? Mark as applied”. We only know what you tell us; we never see the company’s site.

Do you email to ask whether I heard back from an employer?

Once a week, on Tuesday, and only when a job you applied to on a company’s own site is a week old with no news yet: “Any news from your applications?”. If an employer wrote or called, tap “Someone got back to me” and it opens My search showing just those jobs, so you can tap what happened. Heard nothing? There’s nothing to do; we count them as still waiting. When you’ve had a busy week, the email opens with one line on it (“This week: you applied to 6 jobs, heard from 2 companies, and have 1 follow-up due.”); it never adds an email on its own. After four quiet weeks the emails stop until you apply to something new. To stop them, tap “Stop these check-ins” at the bottom of the email, or “Pause for a month”; the same switch is under Emails on your account page. Stopping the emails never removes the question in My search.

What is the “What happened?” question on My search?

A few days after you mark a job on a company’s own site as applied, its card in My search asks “What happened?”: “Nothing yet”, “Auto-reply”, “Rejected”, “Interview or screening”, “Offer” or “Something else”. One tap saves it; the tap is the date, and “Earlier?” lets you pick Today, Yesterday, Last week or a date. “Something else” offers one optional line. After an interview or screening, the card asks once more a couple of weeks later (“Rejected”, “Offer”, “Still waiting”, “Something else”). If the listing closes, the card asks once: “Did they let you know where you stand?” (“Yes, they told me no”, “Yes, I’m still talking with them”, “Yes, an offer” or “No, I never heard anything”), even after an interview, so we can see which companies go quiet; the Tuesday email mentions it too. Nothing is required, and we never ask a question you’ve answered. Your answers move the job between Applied, Interviewing and Closed, and are only ever used combined with other members’, never with your name, to show which employers reply to women returning to work.

Why do you ask how an employer treated me, and who sees my answer?

After you tap “Rejected” or “Offer” on a job you applied to on a company’s site, the card asks once: “How did [company] treat you?” with “Respectfully”, “It was fine” or “Not well”. Only “Not well” offers optional reasons (never replied after an interview, took weeks, rude or dismissive, asked about gaps, kids or age, something else) and one optional line. It’s confidential: the company never sees your name or your answer, only patterns across many women, and only once enough women have answered. Any words you type are read by the You Know Her team only. You can skip it; leaving keeps what you tapped.

Can I find jobs in Canada?

Yes. On Jobs, tap “All filters” and under Country choose “Canada” or “Both”. Canadian listings show their province (for example “Toronto, ON, Canada”) and pay in Canadian dollars (CA$). Partner jobs, where you apply here with your profile, are in the US for now; Canadian listings are public ones you apply to on the company’s site. A job open in both the US and Canada shows under either. Job alerts remember the country you chose.

A job I applied to closed, or my application says “Job closed”. What happens?

If a partner company closes the posting while your application is at Sent or Seen, we email you and add it to your notifications, and it moves to the Done tab in My search with a “Job closed” tag. If you’re already at Interviewing or Offer, closing the posting doesn’t end your process, so it stays where it is. A job also stops taking applications after its closing date and leaves Jobs (the date itself isn’t shown). A closed application has no “Ask for an update”; the job closing isn’t a decision about you.

How do I apply for a job?

It depends on the kind of job. A public listing: tap “Apply on [company]’s site” and apply there, any time, with or without champions. A partner job (with the “Partner” badge): once you have three approved notes, tap “Apply with your profile”, then “Send application”. The employer receives your profile, your approved champion notes, an optional note if you add one (up to 500 characters), and your newest resume unless you tap “Leave out”. Partner applications show in My search: Applied, then Interviewing, and Done once there’s a decision.

Can I apply without sending my resume?

Yes. In the Apply sheet for a partner job, tap “Leave out” next to Your resume (“Include” puts it back). Your profile and champion notes are sent either way. If you haven’t uploaded a resume, there’s no resume row and you can still apply.

Can I save a job for later?

Yes. Tap the bookmark on any job card or job page (“Save” on a partner job’s page on a computer); you’ll see “Saved · View saved”, and tapping it again removes it (“Removed from Saved · Undo”). Every saved job is under Saved in My search, newest first. Saved partner jobs also show under Saved in My search. A public listing that’s gone from the company’s site shows “No longer listed” with “Remove”.

What is “Full job description” on a job?

Some employers attach their official job description as a PDF. Under “Full job description” on the job, tap “Open” to read it right on the page; there’s a “Download” button in the viewer.

What is the Returnships filter on Jobs?

Returnships are paid programs built for people coming back from a break. On Jobs, tap “Returnships” to see only jobs posted as a returnship, plus return-to-work programs at large employers (such as Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, JPMorganChase, IBM and P&G), whatever your fields. A program isn’t one job: its card says “Program page on [company]’s site”, and its button opens the program’s page on the employer’s site, where you apply to join the next group of returners. Its listing page has “About this program” instead of a job description: what the program is, who it’s for (for example, years of experience and length of break), whether it’s paid, how long it runs, the areas and places it hires in, and how to apply, in our words from the employer’s page. Under the button we say when it takes applications (“Taking applications now”, “Takes applications year-round”, or when it usually opens). We list only programs we could confirm are running, check every program page each morning, and take a program off the board when it ends. Returnships are public listings, so the Hours filter doesn’t narrow them; partner jobs still show above them, with “Returnships only apply to public jobs.” Any other job from a company that runs a return-to-work program carries a “Return-friendly” tag, so you can spot employers who welcome people back even when the job itself isn’t a returnship.

Do jobs show the pay?

Every partner job has to show its pay range. Public listings show pay when the company gives it (Canadian ones in CA$). To see only listings with pay, turn on “Shows pay” in “All filters”, or sort by “Highest pay”.

How long until an employer replies to my application?

For partner jobs, employers agree to acknowledge every application within 7 days and update you at least every 14 (companies behind public listings reply in their own time). My search shows when the next update is due. If they’re late, we remind them and record the missed deadline, so you don’t need to chase. If a week goes by with no news on a partner application, you can also tap “Ask for an update” and we’ll email their hiring team for you, at most once a week. Jobs you applied to on a company’s own site have no “Ask for an update”: replies come from the company, and we ask “Heard back?” at 7, 14 and 30 days.

Where do I see the jobs I saved and applied to?

In My search, which has four tabs: Saved, Applied, Interviewing and Done. Saved holds partner jobs you want to come back to. Applied is everything waiting to be seen or reviewed. Interviewing is where you are once they move you forward, through to an offer. Closed keeps the rest: Hired, Not selected, Withdrawn, and applications for jobs the employer closed. Jobs you applied to on a company’s own site (“Yes, I applied”) are in Applied too, and move to Interviewing or Done when you tap what happened on the card. Public listings you saved are under Saved in My search.

What is “Congratulations! Want to share it?” on My search?

When you tap “Interview or screening” or “Offer” on a job you applied to on a company’s site, the card in My search offers once a ready post for LinkedIn: “After a career break, I have an interview. I found the job on You Know Her, a free site for women returning to work.” with your personal link. It names no company unless you add one; the text is yours to edit. “Copy” copies it; on a phone, “Share” opens your apps, and on a computer “Post on LinkedIn” opens LinkedIn with your link. “Not now” puts it away. Whatever you tap, it’s offered once per application. A friend who joins through your link is counted as yours, the same as on Tell a friend.

Where are the jobs I saved?

All in one place: My search → “Saved” lists every job you saved, newest first: partner jobs, public listings you bookmarked, and jobs you added with “Saving it for later”. It also lists the companies you follow. Tap “I applied” on a saved job to move it to Applied (dated today), or “Unsave” to drop it. Once you apply, a saved job leaves Saved on its own. Saved jobs live only in My search; Jobs has no Saved tab.

Can I bring over my job applications from LinkedIn?

Yes. Open Import jobs (also linked from “+ Add a job” on My search). On LinkedIn: your photo → “Settings & Privacy” → “Data privacy” → “Get a copy of your data” → “Want something in particular?” → tick “Job Applications” and “Saved Jobs” → “Request archive”. LinkedIn emails you the ZIP in about 10 minutes; choose it on the import page (or the two CSV files one at a time). You see what we’d add, what’s already in My search and anything we couldn’t read, then tap “Import”. Applications go to Applied with the date you applied; saved jobs go to Saved. Nothing is emailed about an import.

Can I import a spreadsheet of jobs I’m tracking?

Yes. On Import jobs, choose a CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file with a column for the job title and one for the company or the link; a date, a status, a location and notes are used when they’re there. We match the columns from their names (“Company”, “Role”, “Applied on”, “Stage”…); if the names don’t say, we match them from a few sample rows and show you the result, and you can change any column before importing. Status words like “interview”, “offer”, “rejected” or “saved” set the stage; anything else lands in Applied. Jobs already in My search are skipped, up to 500 rows at a time.

Can My search update from an employer’s email?

Yes. On any job in My search, tap “Save an email” and paste the employer’s email, or forward the email to your private address for job updates (it’s at the top of My search, with a Copy button). We read it and suggest an update, like “Looks like an interview, Fri, Oct 30 at 10 AM”. Nothing changes until you tap Save; “Not right” leaves the job as it was. If we can’t tell which job it’s about, we ask you. Only you can see what you send, and we only accept forwards from your account email or addresses you add under “How it works”. Saved emails are deleted after 180 days.

Can I send a job to My search from my phone’s Share menu?

On Android, yes: add You Know Her to your home screen (in Chrome, the menu → “Add to Home screen”), then on any job page tap Share and pick You Know Her. My search opens with the add form filled in from the link; check it and add it. If you’re signed out, you sign in first and the link is kept. iPhone doesn’t offer this for websites; paste the link into “+ Add a job” instead.

Can I track a job I applied to somewhere else?

Yes. In My search, tap “+ Add a job”, paste the job’s link (we fill in the company, title and location when we can read the page) or type the company and title, pick “I applied” and the day you applied, then “Add to My search”. If it’s a listing we already carry, it’s matched to it; if not, we keep the company, title and link you gave. From then on it’s like any job you applied to on a company’s own site: the card asks “What happened?” after a few days, it counts in the Tuesday check-in, and you can add a note or reminder. It’s private: companies never see what you track. If we don’t carry that company’s jobs yet, you’ll be offered “Suggest it”.

A company I want isn’t on the board. Can you add it?

Tap “Don’t see a company? Suggest it” on Jobs (under the search, and in the no-results box), type the company’s name and, if you have it, paste its careers page or a job link, then “Suggest it”. We read companies’ own careers pages, so when the link is on a hiring system we read (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Recruitee, Rippling, Workday, SuccessFactors, Eightfold or Oracle Recruiting) the company is added within the hour, and you get a line on the bell and one email, “[Company]’s jobs are now on You Know Her”, when its first jobs land. Other suggestions are looked at by our team. You’re also offered this after adding a job at a company we don’t carry. Up to 10 suggestions a day.

Can I keep notes, a contact or a reminder on an application?

Yes, on every card in My search, partner applications and jobs on companies’ own sites alike: tap “Add a note or reminder”. There’s a note (up to 1,000 characters), a contact (name, and their email or phone) and “Remind me on” a day. On that morning you get a line on the bell and one email, “A reminder about your [company] application”, with your note and a follow-up you can copy and send. Everything here is yours alone; an employer never sees it. Tap “Edit note or reminder” to change it; clearing every field removes it.

Is there a follow-up message I can send to an employer?

Yes. On a job in My search that you applied to on a company’s own site, “Follow up?” appears once it’s 10 days old with nothing from a person yet; on any card with a note or reminder, “Follow-up text” does the same. It opens a short note you can copy (“Hi Ana, I applied for the Operations Manager role at Acme on October 12 and wanted to follow up…”), using the contact’s first name if you kept one, the role and the day you applied; change anything you like. If you saved the contact’s email, “Open in your email” starts the message for you. The same text comes in your reminder email. For partner jobs, “Ask for an update” does the asking for you.

Can I follow up on an application?

Yes. If a week goes by with no news on an application, tap “Ask for an update” on it in My search. We let their hiring team know for you (it shows for them right away and in their daily summary email), reminding them they agreed to update you at least every 14 days. You can ask once a week, and My search shows the day you asked until they update you. It’s for partner applications only, under Applied or Interviewing (not Done). Jobs you applied to on a company’s own site have no “Ask for an update”: replies come from that company, and we ask you “Heard back?” at 7, 14 and 30 days.

What do the steps on my application mean?

Sent means they have it. Seen means they’ve acknowledged it or are reviewing it. Then Interviewing and Offer. In My search, the Done tab shows Hired, Not selected or Withdrawn, and applications for jobs the employer closed. We email you whenever the employer updates one.

Can I withdraw an application?

Yes. Go to My search and tap Withdraw (one tap, can’t be undone). The employer isn’t emailed; they see it as withdrawn, with no reason given, and they can no longer see your note, your resume or your profile through that application.

Can I apply again after withdrawing?

No. Withdrawing takes one tap and can’t be undone, and you can’t apply to the same job again. Once you withdraw, that company no longer sees your profile, note or resume through that application; you don’t need to change who sees your profile for that.

Where do I see the employer’s note?

Employers can add a note with any update. It shows on that application in My search, and we email it to you.

A job says they also have their own application page.

Some employers link their own application page too. It’s optional: applying here still sends them everything.

How do I share feedback about an employer?

On My search tap “Share feedback”, or in a conversation tap “Share feedback about …”. Choose Good, Mixed or Poor, add a few words if you like, and tap “Send feedback”; sending again replaces your earlier feedback. Only the You Know Her team reads it, and the employer never sees who said what.

Can I send a job to a friend?

Yes. On any job's page, tap “Send to a friend”, add her name, her email and a note if you like, and tap “Send”. She gets an email from You Know Her with your name, your note and a link to the job, which she can open without an account. If she replies, it comes to you. You can send up to 20 jobs a day, starting an hour after you join, and anyone gets at most 3 emails a day from members through You Know Her.

Can I see only jobs at my level, like manager or director?

Yes. On Jobs, tap “Level” and tick one or more: Entry, Mid-level, Senior, Manager, Director, or VP & executive. Many women returning pick two next to each other (say Manager and Director). The level comes from each job’s title, so a few will be off; titles that don’t say a level count as Mid-level. Level is also in “All filters”, and alerts keep it.

Can I see only jobs that pay at least a certain amount?

Yes. On Jobs, open “All filters” and under “Pays at least” pick $50k, $75k, $100k, $125k or $150k a year (“Any” turns it off). Hourly pay counts as full-time (40 hours a week, so $40 an hour is about $83k), and a range counts by its top, so a $70k–$80k job shows under $75k. Jobs that don’t say their pay are left out only while this is on; “Shows pay” is the lighter filter if you just want jobs that name a number. It works on partner jobs and public listings alike, shows as a chip you can remove, and alerts keep it.

Can I see all of a company’s jobs, or filter one company’s jobs?

Yes. Open the company’s page (tap its name on any card or listing) and tap “See all {n} jobs”. That opens Jobs narrowed to that company, with an “At {company}” chip, so every filter works on its jobs alone: search by title, Level, Remote, Part-time, Pays at least, Hide titles with, Posted, Country, and the sorts (For you, Newest first, Most relevant, Highest pay). The heading reads “Jobs at {company}” with the count. Tap the chip’s × to see every company again. You can set an alert on it too, so you hear when that company posts something that fits. The link is shareable: /jobs?company={slug}, the same slug as the company’s page.

Can I hide jobs with certain words in the title?

Yes. On Jobs, open “All filters” and type words under “Hide titles with”, separated by commas (for example “sales, director”). Any job whose title has one of those words is left out, whatever the letter case; it matches whole words, so “sales” doesn’t hide “Salesforce Administrator”. Up to ten words. It shows as a chip (“Hide: sales, director”) you can remove with a tap, and alerts keep it. To hide one company or one job instead, use “Not interested” on the job.

Employers and intros

Can I message an employer first?

Not directly. Only employers can send an intro request (“Ask to meet her”); members can’t send one or message a company first. To reach a partner company, apply to one of their jobs with a short note (once you have three approved notes), which goes straight to the hiring team, or follow them to hear when they post. If an employer asks to meet you and you say yes, you can message each other here.

An employer wants to meet me. What happens?

We email you, and their note and the job show on your home. Tap “Yes, introduce me” to start a conversation here, or “Not now”; the company isn’t told why. You have 14 days to reply (the request shows “Reply by” and the date), then it closes.

If I say “Not now”, can that company ask again?

Not for 90 days. The company isn’t told why you said no. If you don’t answer, the request closes after 14 days, and they can ask again.

Will I get an email when an employer writes to me?

Yes. We email you when they send a message, at most once every 30 minutes while it’s unread. Reply on the site: replies to the email aren’t delivered.

Do I have to keep talking on the site?

No. Start here, then talk however suits you. Tap “Share my email” in the conversation to give it to them. Keeping things here is optional, but it helps you keep track.

How do I keep track of where things stand with an employer?

Open the conversation from Conversations and tap “Where things stand”: Talking, Interviewing, Offer made, Hired or Not a fit. Either of you can update it, and it’s optional.

Can I follow a company?

Yes. Tap a company’s name on any job or listing to open its page, then tap Follow. For partner companies, we email you the first time each new job of theirs goes live, and Following (the “Following” link over the list on Jobs) shows their open jobs. For a company we only carry public listings from, Following lists it with a link to its page; no emails from those yet. Companies don’t see who follows them. To stop, tap “✓ Following” on their page, or Unfollow under Following → Manage.

How do I know if a company is any good to work with?

Tap the company’s name to see their page. A partner company’s page shows what they do and their open jobs; once they’ve had 3 applications, it also shows their response record: how often they acknowledged an application within 7 days over the last 12 months, plus how many people they’ve hired through You Know Her. Other companies’ pages show their open listings; badges such as “Replies to returners” appear only once 20 or more members have reported back about them.

Does every company have a page?

Yes. Tap a company’s name on any card or listing. Partner companies show their story, logo, open jobs, response record and Follow. A company we only carry public listings from gets a page built from public sources: its logo, website, a one-line description with where it came from, headquarters, founding year, size and industry when known; what it posts (returnships, part-time and remote shares, how often pay is shown and the typical range); who it’s hiring now (new this week or month, the teams and places with the most openings); “See all {n} jobs” (the Jobs board narrowed to that company, where every filter and search works); its newest 20 listings from its own careers site; Follow; and a quiet “Claim this page” line for the employer. No ratings; a badge appears only once 20 or more members have reported back about that company.

What’s on a company page, and where does it come from?

For a company we only carry public listings from, everything on the page comes from public sources, and a part with nothing to show is simply left out. The logo, website and one-line description come from the company’s own careers board or homepage, or from Wikipedia (the line says “From acme.com” or “From Wikipedia”, linking to the article). Headquarters, founding year, size and industry come from Wikidata, the open database behind Wikipedia; a company is matched only when its official website or exact name confirms it, so a wrong company’s facts don’t show up. “What [Company] posts” and “Hiring now” are counted from its listings on our board: returnships, the share of jobs that are part-time or remote/hybrid, how many listings show pay and the typical range, what’s new this week or month (only when we read the company’s whole careers site; for very big employers we carry the newest jobs and the page shows their careers site’s own total instead), and the teams and places with the most openings. These are refreshed about monthly. Nothing on the page says how the company treats applicants; that comes only from badges, once 20 or more members have reported back. Logos belong to their owners and are shown to identify the employer; listing here doesn’t mean they endorse You Know Her.

References

An employer asked for references. What do I do?

We email you, and it shows on References. Share any champions who offered to be a reference, tap “I’ll send them myself” if you’d rather handle it, or tap “Not now”. You decide.

Can employers contact my champions on their own?

No. An employer gets a champion’s contact details only after you share that person, and only champions who offered to be a reference. They see only what that champion chose to give.

Can I give references who aren’t my champions?

Yes. Tap “I’ll send them myself” and send them however you like. It just lets the employer know they’re coming.

None of my champions show up when I share references.

Only champions who checked that they’re happy to be a reference, when they wrote their note, can be shared. If none did, you can ask someone new and they can offer to be a reference. You can also tap “I’ll send them myself” and send references another way.

Inviting others

How do I tell a friend about You Know Her?

Go to Tell a friend. Copy your link and post or send it anywhere (on a phone, “Share” opens your apps; on a computer there are LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp and email buttons). Anyone can join free from it. Or add her name and email (and a note if you like) and tap “Send her a note”: she gets one email from You Know Her with your name, your note and a link to join that works for 14 days. We send a handful of these a day for each member so nobody can use the site to send email in bulk; your link has no limit. She can also make her own free account any time. Your link also travels with jobs: “Copy link” on any job page copies that job’s address with your code on it, so a friend who opens it and joins is counted as yours, and the “Share a win” post on My search ends with your link too.

Can I cancel an invite I sent a friend?

Yes. On Tell a friend, tap “Cancel” next to one that hasn’t been used: its link stops working. A friend’s link nobody uses expires after 14 days, and she can still join free at Sign in any time.

For champions

Writing a note

Someone asked me to be their champion. What do I do?

She’s asking you to write a short note about what she does well. Open the link she sent and tap “I know her”, choose how you know her, pick up to three strengths and write a few sentences about her work, then confirm with a 6-digit code we email you. It takes about a minute and needs no account. She reads your note first and chooses whether employers see it.

What should I write?

One or two specific things she did and what came of them, in your own words. There’s no minimum: a sentence is enough, and more is welcome (up to 2,000 characters). Write only what you saw yourself, and keep it about her. “Help me write it” isn’t AI: it fills in a starting draft from how you know her and the strengths you picked, with parts in [brackets] for you to fill in or delete.

It says “Fill in or remove the parts in [brackets]”.

The “Help me write it” starting draft has placeholders in [brackets], like [company] or [what she did, and what came of it]. Replace each one with your own words, or delete it, and you can continue.

I didn’t get my confirmation code.

Check spam, and make sure the email address you typed is right. Tap “Send a new code” to get another. Codes last 20 minutes.

Which email should I use?

Use your real name and an email you can read: we send your confirmation code there, and if she sends your note back to update, the link goes there too. If you’re about to change jobs, pick an address you’ll still have. Your email is never shown. If you offer to be a reference, you can give a different email (and a phone number) for reference calls.

Can I fix my note before I confirm it?

Yes, any time until you enter the code. Your draft is kept if the page reloads. After you confirm, the note can’t be edited, but she can send it back to you to rewrite.

Can she write the note herself?

No. A note has to come from someone who knows her work, confirmed with their own email address, not hers.

Who sees my note and my email?

Employers never see your email, and it isn’t on her profile. She may already have it: if she asked you by email, she typed it, and replies to her ask email go to her. She reads your note first and decides whether employers see it; if she does, they see your name, how you know her, and your title, workplace and LinkedIn link if you added them.

Do I need LinkedIn?

No. You confirm with a code sent to your email. Adding your LinkedIn is optional and helps employers see who you are: paste your profile link, which has to be a linkedin.com link (like linkedin.com/in/your-name). It shows as a link next to your note.

What does “Happy to be a reference” mean?

It tells employers you’d speak for her. You can add a phone number, an email and a short note for reference calls. All of it is optional, and an employer only gets it if she chooses to share you.

Can I change my note after I send it?

Not on the page: each link sends one note, so it now just says “Your note is in.” Notes can’t be edited once confirmed, so every note stays in the champion’s own words. If something needs to change, email us and we’ll help, or ask her to send it back to you: you get an email with a link, your earlier note is filled in, and your new note replaces it once you confirm.

Can I see my note again, or get a copy?

Not on the site. Champions don’t have an account or a dashboard, and they never see her profile or anyone’s notes, including their own once it’s confirmed: the link then only shows “Your note is in.” and can’t be used to add or change anything. We don’t email you a copy; only she is emailed that you wrote. If something needs to change, she can send it back to you, or email us.

After my note, it asked if I know another woman getting back to work. What is that link?

The thank-you page says “Know another woman getting back to work? Send her You Know Her.” with a link to copy (on a phone, “Share” too). It’s the personal link of the woman you wrote about, so if someone you send it to joins, she gets the credit for bringing her; it tells us nothing about you, and you need no account. Anyone can join free from it. If you’d rather not, just close the page.

For employers

Getting access

How does my company get access?

Request access here: your name, work email and company are required; your title, website, company size, the roles you’re hiring for, how you heard about us and a note are optional. Joining is always free. We approve each company by hand, then email you a link to open your account. After that, you sign in with a 6-digit code sent to your email.

What do employers agree to?

Three things: acknowledge every application within 7 days, update candidates at least every 14 days until there’s a decision, and show the pay range on every job you post. We remind you before deadlines and again if one slips. Your company page shows candidates how often you acknowledged applications within 7 days. If deadlines keep slipping, we’ll talk with you about it.

Finding talent

What is “Roles you hire for”?

It’s why Find talent opens on only some women: with no search or filter, it shows “Women who fit the roles you hire for”; tap “See everyone” or search or filter to see everyone. The roles are a card on Company (“Roles you hire for”, “Change roles”). It starts with the roles from your access request (minus “Not sure yet” and “Other”); the Owner can change it, and recruiters see it read-only. Find talent then opens on “Women who fit the roles you hire for”, with a chip per role showing how many fit. Any search or filter shows the usual results, and if no one fits yet it shows everyone.

Why can’t I find a particular candidate?

Women appear in Find talent only after three champions’ notes are approved, and only if they’ve chosen “Employers can find me”. Some prefer to be seen only by employers they apply to, and you’ll see their profile when they apply to yours. If Find talent looks empty, post a job so they can find you in the meantime.

Can I contact someone who isn’t in Find talent?

No. Some women choose to be seen only by companies they apply to. You’ll see her profile if she applies to one of your jobs.

Can I filter by career gap, age or graduation year?

No. There’s no filter for years of experience, age or graduation year, and we never filter or rank on career gaps, age or graduation year. Job dates show only as each woman chooses for each role: how long she was there, the dates, or neither. Graduation and certification years show only if she turns them on.

Can we ask a candidate why she took a career break?

We can’t give legal advice; check with your own counsel. Our Terms ask employers to follow the employment laws that apply to them, including laws against discrimination. On the site there’s no way to require an explanation: she may add “Her career break” to her profile if she wants to, and Find talent has no filter for the length of a break.

How does Save work?

Save adds her to Saved, shared with everyone on your team. She isn’t told when you save her. If she chooses to be seen only by employers she applies to, or is no longer findable, she leaves Saved just as she leaves Find talent.

Can I download or export candidates?

No. Profiles stay on You Know Her, and our Terms don’t allow copying or exporting them. Save the people you’re interested in to Saved, which your whole team shares.

Why can’t I see her resume?

Resumes are shared only when she applies to one of your jobs and attaches it. Her profile, champions' notes and work samples are there for you in the meantime.

Jobs and applications

How do I post a job?

Go to Jobs and tap “Post a job”. Add the title, a description, field, type of work, work style and location. A pay range (USD per year) is required to publish, so members always see what a job pays. Optional: your own application page, a closing date and a PDF description. Tap “Publish”, or “Save as draft”; only your team sees drafts. Members who follow your company are emailed the first time a job goes live.

Can I attach a job description PDF?

Yes. On the job form, add a “Full job description (PDF)”, up to 10 MB. It’s optional; the text you type is still the posting. Members open the PDF right on the job page.

Where do I see applications?

Open the job under Jobs to see its applications. Each shows her profile, her note, “Open resume” if she attached one, and the date your next update is due; finished ones fold under “Closed”. Each application shows on your bell right away, and your daily summary email lists the new ones. The email goes to whoever posted the job, or to the company’s owners if that person has left the team.

How do I acknowledge or update an application?

A new application shows “New”. Open it, choose a status (Received, In review, Interviewing, Offer, Hired or Not selected), add a note if you like, and tap “Update her”. After that first status, any status change counts as an update, and so does a new note alone (status unchanged); either resets the next update to 14 days. She gets an email, at most 5 a day per application.

Can I change Hired or Not selected?

No. Hired and Not selected are final, which is why they take a second tap (“Tap again: this is final”). Choose them only when you’ve decided.

What reminders will I get?

One summary email a day at most, never one per candidate. It lists only what’s new or due: missed deadlines, new applications, candidates who asked for an update, intros accepted, new messages, references shared, applications due within 3 days or overdue, and conversations waiting 3 or more days on your reply. Your bell shows each one as it happens. The “Review applicants” banner shows what’s due.

When does a job close if I set a closing date?

“Closes on” is optional. If you set it, the job closes at the end of that day, Pacific time: it leaves Jobs and new applications are refused.

What happens if I miss an application deadline?

Your daily summary email gives you a heads-up before anything is due and lets you know if one slips, and Jobs shows what needs an answer so it’s easy to catch up. Candidates see your company’s response record: how often you acknowledged applications within 7 days over the last 12 months, once you’ve had 3. If you’re finding the deadlines hard, email us and we’ll help.

How do I pause or close a job?

Open the job under Jobs. Pause hides it from members, but update deadlines on its applications keep running. Close ends it: applications you haven’t moved forward show her “Job closed”. Either can be undone with Reopen; editing a closed job offers “Save and reopen”, a paused one “Save and resume”. A draft can be removed with “Delete draft”.

Can I reopen a closed job?

Yes. Open the job under Jobs and tap “Reopen”, or edit it: editing a closed job offers “Save and reopen” (a paused one, “Save and resume”). It needs a pay range to go live again.

Intros and references

How do I contact a candidate?

On her profile, tap “Ask to meet her”. Pick one of your jobs or “Just to talk, no open role”, write a short note on why her, and tap “Send request”. She has 14 days to reply. If she says yes, your conversation opens in Intros. That’s the only way an employer reaches a member first; otherwise she reaches you by applying to your jobs.

Where do I talk with her after she says yes?

In Intros. Everyone on your company’s team can open the company’s conversations and reply, so if a teammate leaves, the conversations stay with the company. Each message shows on your bell right away, and your daily summary email lists who wrote since the day before and anyone you haven’t replied to in 3 days. Either of you can mark where things stand, from Talking to Hired.

Can I get her email or phone number?

Not from us. You talk here first. Only she can share her email: “Share my email with [company]” is a button on her side of the conversation, not yours. She can also write any other contact details, like a phone number, in a message herself. There’s no phone field, and we never give out a member’s email or phone, including to account owners.

How do I get references?

On her application (once it’s past New) or an intro she said yes to, tap “Ask [her name] for references”, add an optional note and tap “Send request” (“Ask again” later if needed). She chooses which champions to share, or sends references to you herself. You see contact details only for the champions she shares. If she taps “Not now” on a reference request, you can tap “Ask again” later; the 90-day wait applies only to intro requests, not references.

She said not now. Why?

You aren’t told why she said not now: we don’t ask members for a reason, and we don’t share one. Your company can ask her again after 90 days. If she simply didn’t answer, the request closes after 14 days and you can ask again; only one request can wait on her at a time. She may also apply to your jobs later.

Do candidates rate employers?

Members can share feedback with the You Know Her team about how an application or intro went. Only our team reads it, and we never share who said what. If something comes up more than once, we’ll reach out to talk it through with you.

Your company

How do I add a teammate?

Go to Company and add them under “Add a teammate”. They get an email to join your company’s account. Only the account owner can add teammates, and only with a work email on your company’s domain (the one on your website, or your own work email’s), because everyone on your team can see the profiles you can. To add someone with a different address, write to hello@youknowher.com.

Who can change company details or teammates?

The first person in is the Owner; teammates join as Recruiters. Only the Owner edits company details and the logo, adds teammates and can cancel a teammate invite that hasn’t been used (they last 30 days). There’s no way to remove a teammate or change the Owner in the app: tap “Email us” below and we’ll do it.

It says our company is paused.

While a company is paused, candidates' profiles and applicants are hidden, messages can’t be sent, and you can’t update applications, add teammates or invite companies. Tap “Email us” below and we’ll talk it through.

Can I invite another company?

Yes. On Company, under “Know another company that should hire here?”, add their name and work email and tap “Send invitation”. We email them an invitation to request access, with you copied. No candidate’s name or profile goes with it, and we review them like any other company before they can see anyone.

Where do I see new applications and messages?

Tap the bell at the top of the employer pages. Notifications lists new applications, replies in your conversations, intros she said yes to, update requests, references shared with you and deadlines coming up, newest first. Unread ones have a dot and a count on the bell; opening one marks it read and takes you there. “Mark all as read” clears them. Emails still go as before.

What do candidates see about my company?

Your company page: name, website, industry, headquarters, size, what you do, your logo, your open jobs and your response record. The record shows the share of applications you acknowledged within 7 days over the last 12 months (and any hires through You Know Her), once you’ve had 3 applications. Jobs past their closing date don’t show. The account owner edits the details under Company. Once your company is approved, its name and website stay as approved (teammates join by your website’s email domain); to change either, email us.

There’s already a page for my company. How do I claim it?

Pages for companies we carry public listings from are built from public sources: your open listings from your own careers site, and your logo, website, a one-line description and headquarters, founding year, size and industry where your careers board, homepage or Wikipedia gives them, plus plain counts of what you post (returnships, part-time and remote shares, pay shown) and what’s new. Nothing on it rates you. Tap “Claim this page” at the bottom, which opens Request employer access with your company’s name filled in. Once approved, your partner page takes its place: your story, your own logo, the jobs you post here and your response record, and members who follow you get an email when you post a job.
